We’ve known for years that the folks over at Virgin America airlines are a pretty good lot. Not only does their parent company support important social causes — such as Sydney’s gay-tastic Mardi Gras — but the airlines is simply a whole lot of fun.
Now Virgin is entering a whole new category of community action by sponsoring — TODAY — a cross-country chihuahua airlift.
We kid you not.
Here’s how it works: Later today a Virgin America flight will depart from San Francisco International Airport filled not just with happy humans, but a clutch of canines, as well.
The pooches are part of the City of San Francisco Animal Care and Control unit which is working with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in NYC to get the doggies adopted once they arrive later today in Gotham.
Of course, this being Virgin, the chihuahuas will depart SFO in true red-carpet style and their well-being will be broadcast via WiFi throughout the flight by an on-board pet patrol.
The flight is taking off just about NOW and is expected to arrive in NYC later this afternoon with the doggies emerging from security at roughly 5.30pm EST.
