A new survey of 12,500 frequent travelers in 10 countries by hotel giant Westin reveals that folks on the road are more keen on a good night sleep than a good night of sex!
The just-released report indicates that travelers prefer eight hours of REM to eight hours of passion — and they’re taking a lot of pills to get them.
Indeed, 62 percent of respondents say they take some sort of medication to help them fall asleep when away from home — while 42 percent say hotels like Westin should scrap bed-side chocolates in favor of bed-site sleeping pills.
The study was taken in conjunction with the 10th anniversary of Westin’s “Heavenly Bed” – which many consider the comfiest in the industry.
And it follows up on similar research done a decade ago.
While the high use of drugs by travelers is certainly not surprising, what is eye-opening is the apparent decreasing libido of the global traveler. A decade back, a mere 31 per cent said they’d prefer sleep over sex — 10 years on that figure has skyrocketed to a full 51 percent of travelers.
So what’s keeping travelers up a night? Twenty-five percent said their spouse or partner; 58 per cent said bills and mortgage payments — while a whopping 60 percent said it’s their Blackberries and Iphones!
PDA angst — nothing could be less sexy!
Luckily, the Westin folks are partnering with the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) to bring insomniacs some much-needed relief.
For the next month, NSF experts will be manning a toll-free “sleep hotline” (888) TIME-4-SLEEP) to help folks solve their nocturnal dilemmas.
We can only imagine what callers will reveal!
Oops, apparent typo here. “A decade back, a mere 31 per cent said they’d prefer sex over sleep” – shouldn’t that be “prefer sleep over sex”?
THANK YOU!
