OUR NEW FAVORITE WEBSITE: Damien Hirst — You Got to Love Art!

Although we don’t know that much about him, we’re loving the man behind the new website Damien Hirst: You Got to Love Art! — which is coming to us from the tiny nation of Slovenia.

Launched earlier this year, the mysterious site is the handiwork of an artist who brazenly calls himself Damien Hirst — yet has assumed a distinctive anti-Hirst persona media-wide.

He’s created his own collection of Hirst-esque pieces; has his own Hirst Facebook page, Twitter page, and even has an e-commerce concern selling his Hirsty creations.

At its core, the site — and its works — are scathing critiques of the inflated prices and vague meaninglessness of Hirst himself and his increasingly circus like art productions.

Most notably, the pieces — such as “The Fear of Becoming Fat Expressed in the Joy of Being Colorful”, made from 49 M+Ms — are priced at a very un-Hirstlike 1€ each.

Other pieces are made from random items ranging from barbie dolls and plastic rulers to a lone ladybug, 15 human toe nails and a roll toilet paper — though dead cows and preserved sharks have yet to make an appearance.

Again, we concede that we don’t really know much about this un-Hirst Hirst — but we like him — and want to know WHO IS DAMIEN HIRST?

We’re curious to see if the art world likes him, too!

  • You reaaaally want to meet this guy? to me its seems like another pretentious pseudoconceptual artis who is trying to appropriate the fame of a well known artist. Something that is not new by any means. Yasumasa Morimura does it wonderfully, even Maurizio Catelan or the great Duchamp with his appropriation of the Gioconda more than 70 years a go. I’ve been seen some of the real Damien Hirst’s pieces and some of them are breathtaking, amazing to the senses and also stimulating to the mind.
I d’ont see why this guy should get that much attention, hes not original and his pieces are not as stimulating.
