Keep this data away from Perez Hilton, but a new study is linking high HIV rates among black men with their status as the most unwanted sex partners in the nation!
Indeed, according to new research in conducted by the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Black men are perceived by other races as being both risky and undesirable as sexual partners.
Yes — even the studs above!
The study focused on nearly 1200 Gay men in San Francisco and noted that a small pool of sexual partners may be the cause of far higher HIV rates among Gay African Americans.
Indeed, black gay men are three times more likely to have sex with other black men than whites, Latins, etc.
As the study noted:
“the sexual networks of blacks are pushed to be more highly interconnected than other groups, with the potential for a more rapid spread of HIV and a higher sustained prevalence of infection among black gay men.”
Part of the cause, the study notes, is a feeling among black men of being “unwelcome” in mixed-race social settings.
Clearly, lingering racism and economic disparities need to be addressed before San Francisco — or any — GLBT community can fully be called open-to-all.
I live in Vancouver BC, Canada. Any (or all!) of those guys should hop on the next plane coming here. They will be very welcome. I can’t say that there are no racists in Canada, but there are thousands of people, gay or straight who think dark skin is hot! and like guys for who they are, not their genetic heritage.
