Even though asexuals may only be one percent of the population, they’re still demanding their place in the sexual-identity marketplace known as global Pride parades. Which is why for the first time ever, Asexual contingents have begun to show up at Pride marches worldwide.
Last week, AVEN — the Asexual Visability and Education Network — made their debut appearance at San Francisco’s Pride parade, while this weekend sees a similar crew maching in London.
Although barely two dozen asexual marchers showed up in San Fran (above) — they were clearly there to have a good time. Many wore shirts declaring “asexuals party hardest“.
Others were more reflective, with one marcher — a 26 year-old Stanford student – insisting that “asexuals are the queerest of the queer”.
No arguments there.
Still, don’t mistake a lack of sex drive with a lack of passion. As THIS AVEN posting reveals, Asexuals are quietly beginning to demand their place in the Queer community — wondering when A might take its place among the letters LGBT!
Interesting, it all is. We wonder if they’re gonna boycott Obama too?
