Carly Simon, Duncan Sheik, Hall & Oates and Blue Man Group Lend Their Voices to "Listen"

OT_FINAL_COVER

We were very lucky to attend a performance at NYC’s Cherry Lane Theatre today by Our Time — an amazing non-profit group that offers an artistic home for young people who stutter.

The event today included a pair of plays conceived, written and produced by Our Town’s teen and pre-teen members.

And it was both inspirational and unforgettable. The kids were of all ages, all colors, all abilities — working together to support each other’s common theatrical commitment.

Equally unforgettable is Listen — a new album of 15 original songs written by Our Town kids with help from a pretty impressive roster of musical talent.

Carly Simon, Duncan Sheik, Hall & Oates, Mandy Patinkin,  STOMP, John Forte, The Blue Man Group, the cast of Spring Awakening, Rent’s Daphne Rubin-Vega, Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal  — and a whole lotta other rock, funk and hip-hoppers all lend their talent to this first-of-its-kind record which comes out on Tuesday.  Listen took eight years to write — two years to record and will this week finally makes its debut.

Buy it HERE — or in person at a record release party Tuesday at Barnes + Noble on Manhattan’s East Side (150 E. 86th Street) at 4pm.

Lots of Our Times kids will be there — along with Rubin-Vega, some Spring Awakeners, Sherie Rene Scott and a few other folks who can sing far better than we can.

The proceeds go to help Our Time — which is the nation’s ONLY program of its kind dedicated to fostering self-confidence and self-acceptance in kids who stutter, with a range of year-round programs and a one-week performing arts Summer Camp

So, so right on!
